Events Scheduled for Month of the Young Child

April is designated annually as the Month of the Young Child. A number of events in Montgomery County are scheduled to celebrate the month and to focus on the importance of a child’s educational and family experiences from birth to age five. The theme for this year’s celebration is “Partnerships for School Readiness.”

Upcoming activities include:

March 26—The Board of Education will recognize the upcoming celebration and events at its March 26 meeting, which begins at 6:00 p.m. In addition, a joint proclamation event will be held at the Rockville Public Library from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. for all county early childhood stakeholders. Board of Education President Nancy Navarro, other County elected officials, Superintendent Jerry D. Weast, and State Superintendent Nancy S. Grasmick will be among those present.

April 14—Lakeforest Mall will host a family festival from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. with entertainment, parent-child activities, resources, and giveaways. Contact Beth Molesworth, 240-777-1331.

April 25—A child care celebration will be held from 6:00 p.m. until10:00 p.m. at the Gaithersburg Hilton to recognize the important role that child care providers play in quality early education experiences. The event includes dining, door prizes, and dancing. Contact Greg Stevens, 240-777-4661.

April 28—A family festival similar to the one at Lakeforest Mall will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Westfield Shoppingtown-Wheaton. Contact Beth Molesworth, 240-777-1331.
