Roscoe R. Nix ES Welcomes Its Namesake

Roscoe R. Nix Will Visit the New School Named in His Honor


Longtime civil rights leader Roscoe R. Nix will see the primary school named for him for the first time, as he joins Superintendent Jerry D. Weast, members of the Board of Education, other elected officials, and community leaders for a tour of the new facility.

Mr. Nix will tour the school on Friday, September 1, beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Roscoe R. Nix Elementary School offers a prekindergarten program and grades K-2. Nix is paired with Cresthaven Elementary School for grades 3–5. The school was built on the former site of Brookview Elementary School.

The school's namesake, Roscoe R. Nix, was a member of the Montgomery County Board of Education from 1974–1978. He also served as president of the Montgomery County branch of the NAACP from 1980–1990. Mr. Nix also was co-founder of the Montgomery County African American Festival of Academic Excellence.
