Board of Education Seeks Applicants for Advisory Committee on Family Life and Human Development

January 21, 2000
The Montgomery County Board of Education is seeking applicants to fill the following vacancies for the Advisory Committee on Family Life and Human Development:

  • Fourteen representatives of organizations or associations

  • Four students attending Montgomery County Public Schools

  • Five community-at-large members.

Applicants must be Montgomery County residents. Members serve without compensation and meet the first Thursday of each month. Appointments are for two years for adults and one year for students, effective July 1. In recognition of existing vacancies, the Board of Education has decided to make appointments in March, effectively extending terms by three months.

The 29-member committee works with educators in (1) developing, implementing, and evaluating the family life and human development curriculum and program; (2) working with educators on the long-range task of evaluating and improving the programs; (3) examining all printed and audiovisual materials proposed to be used in the schools and recommending those materials which are appropriate at the different educational levels.

The Board makes every effort to appoint committees that are balanced by geographic area, race, gender, and range of viewpoints. Applications are due by the close of business on February 25, 2000, for appointments to be made at the end of March. To obtain an application for this committee, see the link below, or call the Board office at 301-279-3302. Students wishing to apply should contact the Student Affairs Office at 301-279 4957.
