Kubasik Named MCBRE Interim Executive Director

December 9, 2003
Jane Kubasik has been named interim executive director of the Montgomery County Business Roundtable for Education (MCBRE), effective January 1, 2004. The announcement was made by Stephen Marriott, chairman of the MCBRE board.

“Jane joined MCBRE as a volunteer over two years ago and has given of her time selflessly as she has worked to improve the quality of education for our children,” Marriott said upon announcing the appointment. “She firmly believes that it takes all of us, the business community, parents, teachers, and the administration, working together to provide the best education possible for our young people.” According to Marriott, the Board will conduct a nationwide search for a permanent executive director over the next six months.

"Jane Kubasik is an outstanding choice for this position, and she brings considerable expertise and insight about the future of public education in Montgomery County," said Dr. Jerry D. Weast, superintendent of schools. "I believe the important partnership between business and education in our community will continue to grow and thrive under her leadership."

Kubasik currently serves as chair of the MCBRE Accountability and Assessment Subcommittee and is the organization’s representative on several MCPS advisory committees. A Magna Cum Laude graduate of the University of Maryland, Kubasik received her bachelor’s degree in accounting. During her career, she has worked for Coopers & Lybrand, CRICO Communications, and CRI, Inc.

Kubasik replaces Dr. Robert E. Anastasi, a long-time Montgomery County educator, who helped form MCBRE and has served as the organization’s first executive director. Before joining MCBRE, Anastasi helped organize the Maryland Business Roundtable (MBRT) in 1991 and served on the MBRT for ten years. He previously was the Director of the National Principals Academy, after having served for 25 years as an administrator with the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS).
