Reminder: District of Columbia Curfew

September 23, 1999
The Metropolitan Police Department is reminding parents that the curfew law for young people under the age of 17 which is in force in the District of Columbia applies not only to District of Columbia residents, but to those living in other communities who are in the District during the following curfew hours:

Sunday through Thursday: 11p.m. to 6 a.m.

Friday and Saturday: midnight to 6 a.m.

(Note that curfew hours are from midnight to 6 a.m. seven nights a week during July and August)

According to Kevin Morison, Director of Corporate Communications for the Metropolitan Police Department, non-D.C. residents who violate the curfew will be taken by police officers to the nearest District police station. Parents or guardians will be contacted and required to pick up the child. Any child not picked up by 6 a.m. will be turned over to the D.C. Child and Family Services Agency.
