Board of Education to Hold Public Hearing March 2 on the School Resource Officer (SRO) Program

February 12, 2021

The Montgomery County Board of Education will hold a virtual public hearing on the School Resource Officer (SRO) program on Tuesday, March 2. Based on the numbers of testimony requests received, the Board may hold a second virtual public hearing on Thursday, March 4. Testimony will be accepted in written or pre-recorded video/audio formats.

The current SRO program supports all 25 high schools and one alternative program in Montgomery County Public Schools. Members of the SRO Work Group offered 17 tentative recommendations for the Board to consider in order to meet the “adequate local law enforcement coverage” mandate of the Maryland Safe to Learn Act of 2018. Learn more here.

Final recommendations on the future of the SRO program will be brought to the Board by May.

Individuals who wish to provide testimony may sign up beginning Friday, February 12, at 3 p.m. More information about providing testimony can be found here.
