The MCPS Educational Foundation has received a $125,000 donation from Lockheed Martin for virtual learning school supply kits and other technology needs. 

The donation from the Montgomery County-based global security and aerospace company will provide school supplies and meet critical technology needs. 

About $65,000 of the donation will be used to purchase virtual learning school supply kits that include essential school supplies. The remaining $60,000 will go toward the purchase, maintenance and support of Chromebook and MiFi internet devices for students.

“This gift comes at an important time for students and families,” said Yolanda Pruitt, executive director of the MCPS Educational Foundation. “The COVID-19 pandemic has placed significant strain on many families in our community and these resources go a long way to relieving that strain. Lockheed Martin has been and remains an important partner with MCPS."   

MCPS Superintendent Dr. Jack R. Smith said the company’s donation highlights how private industry can work with and support public school systems. “Lockheed Martin’s gift to the Educational Foundation shows that community partnerships can provide direct support to students and families. These are important efforts at a time like this.”

Matthew Swibel, vice president at Lockheed Martin, agrees. “Lockheed Martin is proud to partner with the MCPS Educational Foundation in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and shifts where learning takes place,” he said. “Our partnership expands opportunity for more students to attain meaningful connections to their virtual classroom through technology and other learning support.”
