Arrest of Christopher Papadopoulos

October 13, 2020

Dear Wootton High School Families and Staff,

I am writing to inform you about the arrest of Mr. Christopher Papadopoulos, a former Thomas S. Wootton assistant varsity football coach, on multiple charges related to sexual abuse of minors. The charges stem from alleged sexual contact between Mr. Papadopoulos and former Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) students in 2017 and 2018. These interactions occurred after school hours and not on MCPS property.

MCPS is fully cooperating with law enforcement on this matter. Mr. Papadopoulos has been employed with MCPS since 2016. He worked as an assistant varsity football coach at Wootton High School from 2016 to 2020. He currently is not serving as an assistant coach at any MCPS high school and has been placed on administrative leave.

These charges are troubling, completely unacceptable and represent a violation of the core values of our school and school system. This behavior does not reflect the principles of MCPS or our community and it will not be tolerated.

Counseling staff will be available to connect with students virtually and provide any needed support this week. A list of emails for our counselors and counseling support can be found at https://sites.google.com/mcpsmd.net/woottonhighschoolcounselingsit/home/counselor-student-assignments?authuser=0.  Students and families can also call 240-740-1500.

If you or your child have any information that may be helpful to the investigation, I ask that you call the Special Victims Investigations Division of the Montgomery County Police Department at 240-773-5400.

Sincerely,

Kimberly M. Boldon

Principal

Thomas S. Wootton
