‘Working Together’ Booklet to Assist Asian Americans

May 19, 2003
A news conference will be held on Thursday, May 22, at 9:30 a.m. at Cabin John Middle School to introduce “Working Together,” a publication that reaches out to parents of Asian American students, providing information that will help them improve their children’s success in elementary, middle, and high school. “Working Together” is the result of a unique collaboration between the school system and members of the Asian American community, who provided guidance in the planning and production of the booklet.

Superintendent Jerry D. Weast, members of the Board of Education, community leaders, and parents will participate in the news event.

“Working Together,” written in English, Cambodian, Chinese, Hindi, Japanese, Korean and Vietnamese specifically for parents of Asian American students, follows the publication of “Aim High!” for African American families and “Conquista tu Sueño/Aim High” for Hispanic families. These booklets are part of a series of publications targeted to communities within the school system. They will assist parents in supporting their children’s development of strong academic skills and confidence as learners, preparation for challenging instruction at all grade levels, and awareness of opportunities for college acceptance, success, and financial aid.
