Be Prepared for Weather-Related School Closures

Winter weather, such as snow and ice, and other emergencies may cause disruptions in school operations, including the closure of school, a delayed opening or an early dismissal. Announcements of school closings or delays are made as early as possible, generally in time for news broadcasts that begin at 5 a.m. If schools are closing early, those announcements are made by 11:00 a.m. There are several ways parents can get the latest information on closings or delays:

Make sure you've elected to receive emergency announcements through MCPS QuickNotes. Check your profile to see whether you're signed up.

Get the Latest with Connect-ED

Schools are using a new tool, Connect-ED, to stay in touch with their parent communities. With the Connect-ED service, parents receive pre-recorded voice messages from an automated phone calling system. Connect-ED can provide reliable and timely information about important meetings, school functions or emergencies. Schools also are beginning to use Connect-ED to call parents when students are marked absent.
