
Kimberly Oliver, a Broad Acres Elementary School kindergarten teacher credited with helping turn around declining test scores at the school, has been named National Teacher of the Year for 2006. This is the first time a Montgomery County Public Schools or a Maryland teacher has won the award. Public Announcement Kimberly Oliver received the honor April 26 from President George W. Bush in a ceremony at the White House. |

Broad Acres staff and students were among those attending a May 2, 2006, "hometown reception" held in honor of National Teacher of the Year Kim Oliver. Featured were a musical tribute by Broad Acres students, music by the Springbrook HS Jazz Ensemble and comments from numerous dignitaries. As National Teacher of the Year, Oliver will spend the next year representing all of America's teachers at events around the nation and world. |

Oliver was one of seven finalists selected by the Maryland State Department of Education.
