Kimberly Oliver, a Broad Acres Elementary School kindergarten teacher credited with helping turn around declining test scores at the school, has been named National Teacher of the Year for 2006. This is the first time a Montgomery County Public Schools or a Maryland teacher has won the award. Public Announcement

Kimberly Oliver Honored by The NEA Foundation

Kimberly Oliver, a Broad Acres ES kindergarten teacher, has been selected as one of five recipients of The Horace Mann-NEA Foundation Awards for Teaching Excellence and a 2007 national finalist for The NEA Member Benefits-NEA Foundation Award for Teaching Excellence. The national award recipient will be named at The NEA Foundation's 12th Annual Salute to Excellence in Education Gala on Thursday, February 8, 2007 in Washington, DC.

Honoring National Teacher of the Year Kim Oliver

Broad Acres staff and students were among those attending a May 2, 2006, "hometown reception" held in honor of National Teacher of the Year Kim Oliver. Featured were a musical tribute by Broad Acres students, music by the Springbrook HS Jazz Ensemble and comments from numerous dignitaries. As National Teacher of the Year, Oliver will spend the next year representing all of America's teachers at events around the nation and world.

Kim Oliver Named Maryland Teacher of the Year

Kimberly Oliver, kindergarten teacher at Broad Acres Elementary School, has been named Maryland Teacher of the Year. Oliver was one of seven finalists selected by the Maryland State Department of Education. The winner was announced at a dinner and reception at Martin’s West on October 7, 2005.
