High School Factors Contributing to College Readiness as Measured by the ACCUPLACER Placement Test

Description:

This report provides information about the high school factors that predict ACCUPLACER placement test score. The predictors of the ACCUPLACER placement test are ACCUPLACER Diagnostics, High School Assessment (HSA), Grade 10 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), Grade 8 Maryland School Assessment (MSA), high school course rigor, and weighted grade point average (WGPA).

Recommendations:

  • Administer ACCUPLACER Diagnostics to students in Grade 11 and provide academic intervention in the areas of reading, English, and mathematics.
  • Communicate to students the relationship between success in rigorous courses, including the HSA subjects, and the results of the ACCUPLACER placement test.
  • Use multiple measures, academic and behavioral, to monitor students' progress for their postsecondary plans. The College Readiness Monitoring Tool includes several academic and behavioral measures for the ACCUPLACER placement test. It is recommended that the ACCUPLACER Diagnostics be added to the tool.
  • Continue to communicate to staff, students, and parents information about college course placement and the assessment associated with the placement.
