Participation and Performance Trends of College Admission Examinations in the Classes of 2007 to 2011

Description:

The study examined the impact and trends of SAT and ACT participation and performance for the MCPS graduating Classes of 2007 to 2011. The study also explored associations of graduates' college entrance test participation with their performance on the tests and their overall high school grade point average (GPA).

Recommendations:

  • Schools should use the college readiness monitoring tool to monitor and prepare students for both the ACT and SAT.
  • The school district should consider providing emphasis on ACT performance similar to that provided for the SAT.
  • As a follow-up study to this research, the college readiness M-Stat team should examine why there was a substantial increase in ACT-only participation in certain high schools.
