1. Annual Report, Updated Strategic Plan Now Available

The Annual Report to the Community for the 2021–2022 school year and the updated MCPS Strategic Plan for Fiscal Year 2022-2025 are now available. The annual report is designed to be an easily accessible digital summary of information and key system, student and staff data points for the 2021–2022 school year. It includes:

  • Highlights from the 2021-2022 school year.
  • An at-a-glance look at MCPS demographics.
  • Data on student performance, graduation, services and the MCPS workforce.
  • Information on operating and capital budgets.

Free SAT Prep for High School Students Available Now

2. Deadline Extended to Sign Up for a Free SAT Prep Course

MCPS is pleased to partner with FEV Tutor to provide students high-quality virtual tutoring sessions personalized for their needs. High school students can sign up for a free six-week course between now and May. Registration will close on Friday, March 17. Contact FEV Tutor at mcps@fevtutor.com or 855-763-2607 with questions.

Sessions are available:
Monday–Friday, 7 a.m.-10 p.m.
Saturday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
Sunday, 11 a.m.-10 p.m.


Kids Day Out Set for Jan. 27

3. Next Fentanyl Family Forum Set for March 25 at Paint Branch High School

Montgomery Goes Purple in partnership with MCPS is hosting a third Family Forum on Fentanyl from 9 a.m.–noon on Saturday, March 25, at Paint Branch High School. This forum will focus on more in-depth learning opportunities with dozens of sessions to choose from, as well as Narcan training, dance fitness, resource tables and more. The forum will include sessions for youth and adults, individually and jointly, in English and Spanish. Sample topics to be discussed include: starting a conversation with your student(s), starting a conversation with your parent(s), mental health care, finding and accessing resources, healthy boundaries with friends and much more.

Paint Branch is located at 14121 Old Columbia Pike in Burtonsville.

4. Deadline to Submit Nominations for Public Education Awards Is March 16

The Montgomery County Board of Education is seeking nominations for its 26th Annual Awards for Distinguished Service to Public Education. The awards are sponsored by the Board to recognize and show appreciation to individuals, groups and organizations that have made exemplary contributions to public education in Montgomery County. Visit the Board’s Distinguished Service Awards website for more information. Completed nomination forms must be received by 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 16.


5. Spotlighting Great Students and Staff

Community Conversations on the MCPS Antiracist System Audit

The Department of Athletics is celebrating National Athletic Training this month. National Athletic Training Month is held every March to spread awareness about the important work of athletic trainers. The 2023 slogan is “There’s an AT for That.” The department is highlighting athletic trainers via Twitter and Instagram using #ATsRAISE.

Chevy Chase Elementary School teacher Amanda Hammersla has been named this year’s Rising Star Teacher of the Year. In her third year at Chevy Chase, Hammersla is a skilled, creative and energetic educator who ignites her students’ passion for learning. Read more in this week’s Bulletin.
