COVID-19 Community
Risk Level Change

Dear MCPS Families,

On Tuesday, July 26, Montgomery County moved into a high COVID-19 community risk level based on COVID-19 Community Level measures as outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This combined risk metric helps people better understand what is happening in their community by considering community transmission levels and the current impact of COVID-19 on the health care system.

Montgomery County Public Schools continues to closely monitor available local data with support from our county and regional public health authorities to inform and enhance community prevention strategies. To reduce the impact of COVID-19 in our schools and community at this elevated risk level, at this time MCPS strongly recommends:

  • Staying up to date on COVID-19 vaccinations and recommended boosters
  • Wearing a well-fitting mask while indoors in public, including while attending MCPS summer programs
  • Staying home and testing if symptoms develop

Community members are encouraged to review the CDC’s recommended prevention strategies to decrease individual and household-level risk from infection when the COVID-19 community level is high. Individuals at higher risk for severe disease, including older adults, individuals who are pregnant or with certain medical conditions, and individuals not vaccinated against COVID-19 may wish to consult a healthcare provider.

Masks and at-home tests are available at all MCPS summer program locations and local libraries. Age-eligible children may receive the COVID-19 vaccine at school-based vaccine clinics regardless of enrollment. Additional information on testing and vaccination clinic opportunities in the community are available from the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services.

Staff and students participating in MCPS on-site summer programs should report positive test results on the MCPS COVID-19 Reporting Form. Other community members who test positive for COVID should report test results to the Maryland Department of Health OneStop Portal.
