Things to Know for
Thursday, May 12

Here are five things to know for Thursday, May 12. They include reminders about COVID-19, online mental health and wellness resources, information about an upcoming LGBTQ+ town hall and summer program registration.

  1. COVID-19 is Still Here So Let’s Remain Vigilant
Even though positive COVID-19 case rates are up in Montgomery County, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) maintains that the impact on our community is “moderate”. However, it’s important to remain vigilant and consider using the valuable tools that minimize the spread of the virus. It is strongly encouraged that you consider using your mask when out  in the community, avoid large crowds, physically distance when you can, wash your hands frequently and stay up-to-date with your vaccines and boosters. Doing these simple things helps to keep you healthy and helps to keep the impact of COVID-19 lower in our schools.

You can see the specifics on the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services data dashboard and the MCPS data dashboard

  2. Masks Are an Important Tool in Classes with Three or More Positive Cases
Consistent with Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services recommendations, MCPS has implemented some focused mask use in specific classes or schools, usually when there are three or more COVID-19 cases in a class.

To communicate with families, letters about positive cases that include advice about mask use, are sent home as necessary. Masks are an important tool to keep students and staff safe. MCPS is also sending additional take-home rapid tests and masks to impacted schools. Students and staff that are not up-to-date on their COVID-19 vaccinations or boosters may be required to quarantine per guidance from the CDC, Maryland Department of Health and the Montgomery County  Department of Health and Human Services.
