Dear MCPS Support Professionals:

At its October 6, 2020 meeting, the Board of Education approved November 4, 2020 as a professional development day. This decision was based on feedback from staff that more professional development opportunities are needed during virtual learning.

In collaboration with SEIU Local 500 leadership, MCPS has developed a framework for the November 4 professional day that includes continuing operations and self-directed training opportunities. Food service distributions will continue as scheduled on November 4. Transportation and security staff involved in those distributions will continue that scheduled work. The Department of Transportation and the Department of Systemwide Safety and Security have identified in-service training opportunities for staff not engaged in food distributions.

Other school-based 10-month staff, such as paraeducators and attendance secretaries, will have the opportunity to access training and professional development online; catch up on work as needed; or plan collaboratively with other staff.

Thank you for all that you do for our students.

Sincerely,
