Welcome Back Message to Students

Hello everyone,

My name is Nick Asante, and I am your 43rd Student Member of the Board of Education (SMOB).

Congratulations on completing your first week of the school year; I hope it went smoothly! I know that these are not the circumstances we had hoped to return to in the fall, but I have full faith that we will all be able to adapt to a “new normal” together. Our teachers have spent ample time this summer preparing to ensure a robust experience for all of us! Please be patient with them as they’re also learning how to maneuver these new virtual platforms.

As you continue with virtual learning this year, here are a couple of tips to help you succeed:

• Take advantage of the Wednesday Check-In periods if you need help.
• Check your MCPS email account regularly for important information.
• Set up a learning space, if possible, away from distractions.

Be on the lookout next week for the monthly SMOB newsletter! It’ll have an overview of some things I did this summer to represent your voice at the Board table, as well as some of the wonderful opportunities to come. Also, check out this year’s first SMOB Minute attached to this email!
