Dear MCPS Community:

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year!

We are looking forward to welcoming back our more than 166,000 students virtually this Monday, Aug. 31. Our staff has spent the spring and summer preparing for the start of the school year and has worked hard to put a plan in place that will ensure all students receive engaging and high-quality instruction.

It’s hard to imagine that just a few months ago, all of us—students, teachers, administrators and parents—had to quickly adjust to a brand new way of teaching, learning and engaging with one another. Together, we made the best of an unprecedented situation and faced the challenges head on.

As we start this school year off in an unconventional way, we know it will take time to adjust. Please give our phenomenal teachers, administrators and support staff some grace. Please give yourselves grace as well as you figure out a system that works for you.

MCPS is reimagining every aspect of its work to provide all students with needed supports, flexibility, dynamic instruction and extracurricular activities that will keep students engaged and thriving.

We are fortunate to have so many employees and community members with committed hearts and a dedication to our students. We are confident that we will accomplish so much more than we imagine if we commit to working together.

We will be sharing additional resources and information this weekend to help you as you prepare for the start of the school year.

Have a wonderful school year.
