Dear Parents of Prekindergarten, Head Start, Pre-K Plus, and Special Education Prekindergarten Students:

The purpose of this message is to provide information about expectations for distance learning for early childhood programs.  Prekindergarten teachers will engage in developmentally appropriate distance learning with children and families during the extended school closure.  In addition, teachers will re-establish connections with children and families through regular communication during office hours.

In order to accommodate prekindergarten students developmentally, distance learning will include paper activities to be done at home.  A process will be developed to distribute the materials. Teachers will support these activities during live and recorded online lessons and will reinforce them during office hours. Teacher-led online learning activities will be no longer than 30 minutes, primarily focused on read-alouds and activities supporting mathematics and early literacy.

Parents/guardians of prekindergarten children have access to Chrome Books through the distribution process to support distance learning. We will assist parents by providing usernames and logins for prekindergarten students as they may not have routinely used Chrome Books in the classroom. Access to printed packets and calendars of activities can also be provided as a method for remote learning.
