Teacher, Elementary Team Leader

WORKING TITLE: Teacher, Elementary Team Leader GRADE: AD MONTHS: 10
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: Working collaboratively with local school administrators, to assure student success, the elementary team leader manages and facilitates team activities, and serves as a liaison to other teams and service providers such as speech therapists, ESOL teachers, and special education resource personnel. Team leaders, appointed annually by the principal, receive a salary supplement in accordance with the Agreement Between the Montgomery County Education Association and the Board of Education.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Extensive knowledge of elementary school curriculum, and human development considerations including the characteristics and needs of elementary school students. Demonstrated organizational and leadership skills. Working knowledge of data analysis principles, and of technologies used in instruction and program management. Ability to work effectively with principals, teachers, parents, and students. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Knowledge and application of the six performance standards that have been established for the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Teacher Professional Growth System (TPGS), and the Supporting Services (SEIU) Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, with evidence of continuing professional development. Minimum of three years outstanding teaching experience. Experience in team planning, cooperative learning, team teaching, and in a relevant leadership role desirable. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in this position may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Meets Maryland State Department of Education certification requirements.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) As required by the duties and responsibilities of the job.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Required to attend school meetings, programs and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the MCEA agreement.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Coordinates, and manages team activities, and events such as field trips, parent conferences, grade-level functions, and vertical articulation activities.

Requests and monitors the use of supplies and materials.

Schedules and conducts team meetings.

Represents the team at school leadership meetings.

Assists with the development of school schedules and calendars.

Coordinates parent conferences on designated days.

Coordinates the work of instructional assistants, and parent volunteers.

Participates with team members and other school staff in data analysis activities.

Identifies needs related to the acquisition and use of instructional technologies.

Assists in planning, coordinating and conducting testing.

Serves as a resource to substitute teachers.

Communicates with parents, and other community members using vehicles such as newsletters, and flyers.

May initiate and monitor compliance with grants and grant-related activities.

Functions as the team's liaison with other service providers such as GT coordinators, the staff development teacher, special education resource persons, ESOL teachers, speech therapists, and interpreters.

Performs other duties as assigned.
