COVID-19 Staff Vaccination
and Testing Resources

General Information

At the September 9, 2021 meeting the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Board of Education (BOE) adopted a COVID-19 vaccination mandate for all MCPS employees. The mandate requires that all staff verify that they have received the first and second (as applicable) shots of the COVID19 vaccination unless the employee has an approved medical or religious exemption. Employees who are not fully vaccinated, for any reason, must submit to COVID-19 testing once every 7 days and report the results of each test.

Communication was sent to all MCPS employees to provide guidance on the requirements of the vaccination mandate. All new employees are notified of the mandate as part of the hiring and onboarding process. Any MCPS employee who does not comply with the BOE mandate to be fully vaccinated or to be approved for an exemption may be subject to disciplinary action. Additionally, any MCPS employee who is required to test once per 7 days and does not comply with that requirement may be subject to disciplinary action.

Covid-19 Vaccination Exemptions

An employee may request to be exempt from the COVID-19 vaccination for medical reasons or in accordance with sincerely held religious beliefs. To request an exemption the employee must submit the appropriate form and that request must be approved. An online portal has been developed to confidentially manage employee vaccination exemption requests.

Request Vaccine Exemption

For medical exemption requests, in addition to the form, employees must attach related medical documentation. The medical documentation only needs to include information related to your request for accommodations, MCPS does not need a full medical record or any information related to other medical conditions if they are not related to your accommodation request. All medical information is kept in a secure, confidential medical file and is not shared with your principal and/or supervisor and is not placed in your personnel file. This information should include:

  • nature, severity, and duration of the impairment, medical condition or disability
  • the life function, activity or activities that the impairment, medical condition or disability limits (for example, breathing, walking, executive function, etc.)
  • the extent to which the impairment, medical condition or disability limits your ability to perform the activity or activities on-site, and
  • why the requested reasonable accommodation is needed.

For a medical exemption request the employee must upload the completed medical exemption form and documentation from their doctor to support the request.
