Students and staff lined up to form a 75 in celebration of their anniversary

Students, staff, and families of Germantown Elementary are proudly celebrating the school's 75th anniversary this year and are touting its status as the first school to open in the Upcounty community.

Students have worn special t-shirts, designed by MCPS parent Nelton Castro, and played a role in organizing the photo of the entire school community in the shape of a "75" to capture the school's spirit and unity in this milestone year.

The school has been celebrating its anniversary in little ways also. Stories of the school's history have been displayed in the hallways, thanks to Ellen Horbatuk, a paraeducator, parent of a Germantown ES alumnae, volunteer and the school's unofficial historian.

“We’re very excited about celebrating this milestone, the rich history of Germantown," said Amy Bryant, principal. "We are very proud to be the first elementary school in Germantown."

The school plans to host an evening event soon for former staff, students, and the greater Germantown community to celebrate the anniversary.
