Writing the High School Essay

Writing the High School Essay is a non-credit course open to rising high school freshman.  It is designed to familiarize incoming 9th graders with the specific terminology used by Wootton English teachers in our writing program.  In addition, it provides students with multiple opportunities to read, comprehend, analyze, discuss, interpret, and analyze literature.  Students participate in whole class discussion, small group discussion, and work individually to hone their reading and writing skills.  Students write three substantive essays and receive teacher feedback.  The course meets four hours a day for five days.
