Dear Parents/Guardians,

This time of year, the question that I am most often asked is, "What can I do to help my child continue reading and writing during the summer?"  In response, our school is offering Summer Reading and Writing Calendars for students entering grades 1 and 2, Summer Journal Activities for students entering grades 3 and 4, and  Summer Reading and Writing Activities for students entering grade 5.  Grade 5 activities offer students opportunities to read and write for various purposes and outcomes.  These activities can be used in conjunction with the Montgomery County Department of Public Libraries' program entitled "Summer Reading 2009:  Be Creative!" providing incentives to keep students reading and writing during the summer months.

All activities for students entering grades 1-4 can be printed using the links below.  Due to the format of the documents for students entering grade 5, we ask that you contact the school if you are interested in receiving a copy of these activities.  Activities do not need to be returned in the fall.  However, if you choose to send them in, I will provide students with feedback.  Please remember, these are not graded activities and are purely optional.

I hope you have a fabulous, exciting summer and I look forward to seeing you in the fall!

Sincerely,

Mrs. McGreevy
