Quarter
3: Writing to Persuade
Authors of persuasive writing achieve their goals or purposes by
convincing the reader to consider an issue in the same way that the author does,
changing the reader’s opinion or view of an issue or topic, convincing the
reader to respond in a certain way, and/or influencing the reader’s
decision-making. There are
different forms of persuasive writing, including editorials, advertisements,
essays and research reports.
During this quarter students will apply strategies and skills that were
taught during previous grades, or quarters, evaluate different forms of
persuasive text, develop a persuasive oral argument, and write persuasive
paragraphs. Fourth graders will
research and write a report persuading their teachers to visit a particular
state.
We will also continue working on our autobiographies!
