Students register to attend Walter Johnson HS by visiting Karina Toruno, the WJ Counseling Secretary. Questions can be directed to Ms. Toruno via email or by phone at (301) 803-7121. However, registration must be completed in person BY APPOINTMENT. The MCPS How to Enroll Your Child in School web page contains information on the documentation that must be presented for registration.
To find out more about Walter Johnson HS check the WJ School Profiles, the WJ History and the WJ Information web pages.
The Shadow Visit Coordinator for WJ is counselor Joseph Adegboyega-Edun. Questions about the shadow program can be emailed to Joseph_Adegboyega-Edun@mcpsmd.org.
The WJ Shadow Program welcomes prospective students from out-of-area schools to shadow at WJ for 1 day. Students in WJ feeder middle schools are not invited to shadow because they have several other opportunities to familiarize themselves with Walter Johnson, their home school. These opportunities include WJ Counselor visits to the middle schools during 8th grade, and the New Student Picnic and WJ Orientation in August. Students in the WJ feeder middle schools are encouraged to make use of these opportunities as well as attending WJ sports, theater and music events during their middle school years. Area middle school students who are admitted to the APEX Program and wish to shadow a current APEX student for a day are permitted to do so and receive information directly from the APEX Coordinator on how to take advantage of the opportunity.
Parents of prospective WJ students who would like their students to visit the school and shadow a current WJ student for a day should proceed as follows:
- Students may ask to shadow a particular WJ student but Mr. Adegboyega-Edun can also arrange a match to a WJ student with similar interests. If the shadowing student's family knows the WJ student to be shadowed, they need to contact the family of that student before making the request.
- All shadow visit requests must be made in writing and are approved for one day only. Wait for confirmation that the visit/shadow experience has been approved for a particular day.
- Both the parent and the visiting student must sign in at the WJ Main Office no later than 7: 30 a.m. on the day of the visit and then proceed to the Counseling Department.
note that shadow visits are not scheduled during the months of September and
May and are limited during the month of June. Plan accordingly.
