Scheduled Events

The Guidance Advisory Committee (GAC) is a PTSA-sponsored committee that works with the Counseling Department to increase communication among parents, students and the school. The GAC is composed of the WJ counselors, the parent members of the committee, 12 students (representing all grades), the principal and assistant principals.

The GAC meets the 2nd Friday of each month in the Staff Dining Room at 8:15 a.m. to discuss counseling services and to make suggestions. If there is a topic or issue that you believe should be raised, or if you are interested in serving on this committee please contact the co-chairpersons by clicking either of their names above.

The GAC sponsors several forums each year for the Counseling Department: the freshman, sophomore, junior and senior class parent meetings; college forums addressing the college application/admission process; and a College Rap Session in late December, at which former Walter Johnson graduates return to talk with juniors and seniors. Additionally the GAC sponsors forums specific to the Academic and Social Issues of High School.

The "Counseling Information Sheet," commonly known as the Green Sheet, accompanies each issue of the PTSA newsletter, The Big Train. This newsletter is designed to keep you informed about coming events, tests, deadlines, and services and programs of the Counseling Office and College & Career Planning Center at WJ. If you would like to suggest a topic for coverage in a future Counseling Information Sheet, please contact one of the GAC co-chairs.
