FOCUS QUESTIONS:

(1) Explain the foreign policy priorities of the United States toward your country.
(2) Explain how your country addresses national security, economic, OR humanitarian foreign policy objectives.


You will be responsible for:

1. Conducting research on your country’s foreign policy and the U.S. foreign policy toward your country. Class time will be given to conduct research; however you should expect to spend time on your own researching your topic. You will complete a graphic organizer for each source that will count towards your overall grade.

2. FOCUS QUESTION 1: Explain the foreign policy priorities of the United States toward your country.


• Complete at least two graphic organizers with two separate sources.
• Write a complete response to the questions.

• Turn in a Works Cited page, using proper MLA citation.

3. FOCUS QUESTION 2: Explain how your country addresses national security, economic, OR humanitarian foreign policy objectives. (ESOL Levels 4 & 5 only)


• Choose the foreign policy goal that you think is most important for your country.
• Complete the graphic organizer.
• Create a Works Cited page on the back of the graphic organizer using proper MLA citation.

FOCUS QUESTION 1:
Explain the foreign policy priorities of the United States toward your country.
• You should collect a minimum of 2 sources AND fill in a graphic organizer for each source you use

• Write four separate paragraphs to include the following:


1) NATIONAL SECURITY: (a) Is your country, or elements within your country considered a threat to the national security of the United States? If so, explain OR (b) Is your country allied with the United States in the fight against terrorism? If so, explain. (If your country does not play a role in helping the U.S. protect its national security, you do not need to write a paragraph for this topic. For this topic, turn in a statement that states, for example, “Ghana does not play a role in the U.S. policy of national security.”

2) ECONOMY:
What is the economic relationship of your country to the United States in terms of trade, aid received from the U.S., and aid received from the IMF and World Bank.

3) HUMANITARIAN/IDEOLOGICAL:
Describe how the foreign policy of the United States toward your country is trying to do any of the following. (Include a description of the conditions in your country): Spread democracy/promote fair elections, support human rights, protect the environment.

4) Describe the main priority of U.S. foreign policy to your country: How does it affect your country?
