Students will choose one Latin American country and analyze its independence movement and the success of that independence movement. They will use that information to:

A.Create a poster or powerpoint presentation of the independence movement
Include:

Short biographical information of key leader(s)

What role these leaders played in independence

Date the country became independent and the country from whom it became independent

Background information on the issues leading to revolutionary movements:
What were the particular social, political, economic and/or cultural issues in the country that were causing tension?

Chronology of events

Brief description of key events

Address how the movement ended

Any pictures/images that help to make the movement come alive

B. Write a one page analysis of the success of the independence movement.
Questions to consider:

Were the specific goals of the revolutionary leader(s)/group(s) met?

Was a stable government structure put into place that allowed for the achievement of the goals of the independence movement?

Was true independence achieved? What were the results?
