When you visit the Walter Johnson Media Center to do research, you will have a tremendous resource at your fingertips.  Through the Media Center Home Page you will have access to a wide variety of information for educational purposes. This exercise will help you discover all that this web page has to offer.

1. Start by clicking on the Media Center webpage. Quickly look over the options it provides.

• Write two or three sentences about the type of resources available on
  the Media Center Webpage.

2. Now select Online Resources and then click on and look over your options for links.

• What resource would you use to look up synonyms for a vocabulary word?

• List three resources that you would choose to help you find general information about an event in history.

3. Now click on on the Media Center Webpage.

• What resource would you use to look up a quotation by Shakespeare?

• Now, go to that resource and write down one quotation from Shakespeare.

• What if you wanted to find out about the author Harper Lee?

• Find one resource to research the following information about Harper Lee.

  1. How old is she?

  2. What famous novel did she write?
  

4. Click on on the Media Center Webpage.

• List at least three sources you would use if you wanted information on an event that occurred this morning.

• Click on one of these sources. What information does it offer you?

5. Now click on on the Media Center Webpage.

• Click on . When you get to the Basic Search box, type in "The Depression." List at least three different reference articles that you can use in your research on this subject.

• Return to the Basic Search box and type in "Plessy v. Ferguson." Look up "Separate but Equal Doctrine." What did you find?

6. Go to on the Media Center Webpage.

• List at least two different sources for finding current information on cloning.

• Access one of these sources and write down one article title on "Cloning."

7. Return to the Media Center Home Page. Click on the .

• What will it allow you to do concerning other high school libraries?

• What would you do to search for materials in WJHS Library?

8. Return to Media Center Home Page.  Where would you go to find out how to do a Works Cited Page?

9. Return to Media Center Home Page. Where would you go to connect to The Montgomery County Public Library?
