SAMPLE RESOLUTION (Thanks to Brian Platt, Class of 1997)
Committee: General Assembly
Subject: United States Intervention
Proposed by: ECLAC (Economic Commission for
Latin America and the Caribbean)
The General Assembly
(1) Deploring the intervention of the United
States in the sovereign affairs of Latin American (2) states over the last
fifty years,
(3) Recognizing that the internal affairs of
these states are the affairs of these states alone,
(4) Believing that the intervention by the United
States by covert or overt methods is a
(5) flagrant abuse of power, and
has no place in a world respecting the borders of a nation,
(6) Recalling the strife caused, intentional
or otherwise,
(7) by the military intervention into these
nations by the
(8) United States, and the oppression of citizens
allowed
(9) or encouraged to occur by this intervention,
(10) Alarmed by the lack of opposition shown
by other nations in the United States' violation
(11) of international law and military
action'in several of these states,
(12) Concerned that if this abuse goes unrecognized,
that the United States will continue its
(13) policy of overthrowing governments it deems
objectionable, in
(14) order to further US business interests
in Latin America,
(15) Condemns the United States for its intervention
(16) into the affairs of the sovereign governments
of Latin America;
(17) Calls upon the United States to remove
any military forces from Latin America,
(18) and to never again use its economic pressure
or military forces to alter
(19) the governments of the nations of Latin
America.
