MICAH E. WIGGINS
ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
Mr. Micah Wiggins was born in Virginia Beach, VA and educated in the Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS). In 1996, he received his Bachelor's Degree in History and Secondary Education Certification from Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA and he also completed a pre-graduate program in Historical Research from the College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, VA. Additional training and professional development was attained from the following universities: Wake Forest University and Regent University. In 2009, Mr. Wiggins completed a Master's Degree in Education with a concentration in Administration and Supervision from Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD.
In 1996, Mr. Wiggins began his teaching career as a social studies teacher with VBCPS. While employed with VBCPS, Mr. Wiggins taught at Tallwood High School and Independence Middle School. During his tenure at Tallwood and Independence, Mr. Wiggins served in several capacities including: Student Government Association (SGA) Advisor, and member of the Multicultural Student Association, Ninth Grade Transition team, and the Zero Policy Committee; and received numerous awards and commendations including: Teacher of the Month (1998, 1999), and Teacher of the Year (2001).
In 2001, Mr. Wiggins continued his educational pursuits by accepting a teaching position with the Wake County Public Schools System (WCPSS) in Raleigh, NC. In North Carolina, Mr. Wiggins taught social studies at the Garner Senior High School, Garner, NC. While at Garner, Mr. Wiggins served in several capacities including: Facilitator of Transition to 4X4 Block Scheduling, Quality Improvement Committee, Standardized Testing Committee, the Wake Education Partnership, and the Garner Business Alliance and received the Edward Sheppard Wadsell Jr. Teacher Excellence Award in 2003.
In 2003, Mr. Wiggins accepted a social studies teaching position with the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) and joined the faculty of Walter Johnson High School (WJHS). While at WJHS, Mr. Wiggins has served as sponsor of the SGA and the Black Student Union as well as a member of the Instructional Council and Minority Scholars Program. Most recently, he served as Acting Assistant Administrator and the Chair of the Eligibility Committee. Awards and commendations include: The Grand Slam Award for Extraordinary Contributions to students (2005), and Master of Ceremonies at the 50th Commencement Exercises of Walter Johnson High School (2008).
Mr. Wiggins permanently joined the administrative staff at Walter Johnson High School in the summer of 2010.
