Welcome to Whitworld!

Mission

Whitworld is the intercultural committee aimed at connecting international and newcomer families with the school community in a friendly environment, offering orientation and helping to settle in the area. Whitworld members and the school administration share the vision that International families, that represent  one third of parents at Whitman,  are a valuable resource and their dynamic involvement in school activities is an extraordinary opportunity of cultural enrichment and exchange with American values . Whitworld  is an experience of new friendship that lasts beyond the years our children attend Whitman High School and keep us connected around the world.

History

Whitworld  was founded as a challenging experiment  in 2009/2010 by co-chairs Gloria Olimpio and Kim Weichel with the PTSA former co-president Vicky Strella. With only 15 members, it launched a program of informative, cultural and social activities that turned out to engage enthusiastically not only International, but  also American parents . In 2011  it  has grown to include 60 members from 30 countries from all the continents  and has recently established an organizational structure to manage a  program running at a fast pace.  The success of Whitworld has been consolidated by the strong support of the Principal Dr. Goodwin and Esol resource teacher Sonja Maroni.
