Whitman High School Education Foundation

WHSEF Mission

The Whitman High School Education Foundation (WHSEF) raises funds to support projects that enrich and extend the intellectual, social, and physical education of the Walt Whitman High School community. Working with Whitman staff, student, and parent leadership, the Foundation identifies, assesses, and responds to unmet program, facility, and equipment needs. The Whitman Education Foundation is a volunteer-run, 501 (c)(3) tax-exempt organization.

 Foundation-funded projects have included:

  • Purchase of computer workstations for the Media Center (total of 33 over course of two-phased plan) for use in writing and research skill development.
  • Upgrading the Auditorium’s sound system.
  • Supplemental classroom equipment, including LCD projectors and Promethean Boards.
  • Replacement of antiquated display panels for the Festival of the Arts.
  • Support for staff training in AP, Special Education and Guidance.
  • Purchase of recycling bins and energy-efficient window films.
  • Installation of a technology-enhanced language learning lab.
  • Financial support for the school's Learning for Independence program.
  • Renovation of the school’s inner courtyard.
  • Implementation of a videoconferencing program to enhance global understanding.

Generous community support has made the Foundation’s projects a resounding success, both for Whitman’s physical plant and for the programs that help our students learn and achieve. As the Foundation grows, its potential to have a positive impact on the excellence of our school also grows.
