Department Overview
"Living in the world today and speaking only one language is like living in a beautiful mansion and being locked up in just one room."
The goal of the World Languages Department here at Wheaton High School is to unlock the doors that keep people linguistically, culturally and socially separated! We want our students to be able to function in a diverse, global society. We want our students to be able to appreciate the beauty and richness of other cultures. In our Foreign Language Department, we help student meet the five standards, the five "Cs" of language learning:
- COMMUNICATE in a language other than English;
- Gain Knowledge and understanding of other CULTURES;
- Make CONNECTIONS with other disciplines;
- Develop insight into and be able to COMPARE the nature of language and Culture; and finally
- Participate in multilingual COMMUNITIES at home and around the world.
