Commitment
Seasons last for a period of 2-3 months, during which teams practice every day for two hours, and play a number of games. Players are expected to attend all practices and games unless there is a very compelling reason. Please contact the coach if your child will not be able to attend practices. While players must provide their own transportation to and from practice, for most teams, buses are provided to away games. On some teams, players may be required to purchase socks, mouthguards or other uniform accessories which are generally not returnable for reuse by someone else. Uniforms are provided, and players are obligated to keep them clean and undamaged, and to return them promptly at the end of the season, or else they will incur a school obligation.
Parent involvement
The Athletic Program relies on the support of parents and other members of the school community. The Athletic budget provided by the county is not by itself sufficient to fund the Athletic program, so admission to games and fundraisers are important. Beyond the basic obligation of enabling your son or daughter to attend practices and games, you are encouraged to support the program by
- Attending games (some charge admission which goes to support the Athletic Department: $5 for adults, $3 for students, $1 for children ages 6-11
- Join the Booster Club! Help to support the entire Wheaton Athletic Program.
- Volunteering to help out with your team in a variety of ways, such as driving players to games, working the concession stand when your team has signed up for it. The profits from the concession stand go into the Athletic budget.
- Helping to set up for games, providing snacks or meals or other ways suggested by the coach.
- Meet your son or daughter’s coach--contact them if they do not contact you! e-mail links can be found on the Athletics page.
