Goals

Our goal as ESOL teachers is to teach the students social and academic English so that they can function in the U.S.A.

Objectives

We carefully monitor each student’s progress and group the students according to their ESOL levels.

Grading

Students are graded according to the objectives for their ESOL levels.

Homework

Homework is an important part of our ESOL program.  It reinforces skills that have been taught in the classroom.  We assign homework 3 to 5 times a week. Not completing homework or class work will adversely affect Learning Skills ratings, and the student’s progress in English.

The student handbook contains a daily calendar in which the students write their assignments. It also contains a “Homework Buddy” page on which the students write the names and phone numbers of 2 students in each of their classes. Unless a child is too ill to work, absence is not an excuse for not doing homework. He/She is supposed to contact a homework buddy for the work which was missed because of absence.

Supplies

We request that the students bring to school:

  • 1 3- ring binder
  • 10 dividers
  • loose leaf paper
  • 2 blue or black pens (Eraser Mate preferred)
  • 2 pencils
  • highlighter
  • eraser
  • 1 red & 1 green pen
  • bilingual dictionary
