Homestead Farm- Fight Hunger Event

What's Happening Down on the Farm?
WHO: All Westland families and staff.
WHAT: Please help us fight hunger in Montgomery County by joining us for a fun day of produce-picking (apples, squash, tomatoes) to help stock area food banks! Pumpkins will be available too!
WHERE: Homestead Farm, near Poolesville, MD.
WHEN: Sunday, October 5th; please check in at our table near the pond between 10am and 2pm to purchase apple-picking bags. Homestead is offering us a very generous deal: for $10, you can buy a bag that holds 22 pounds of apples. Pick one bag for yourself and at least one more to donate!
WHY: Earn SSL hours, do something positive for your community, have fun, meet other Westland families.

Please let PTA Community Service Co-Chairs Carrie Hurd or Andrea McCarren know if you can make it! They need to have a rough estimate of the number of people who plan to come. Thanks and we look forward to seeing you for Westland's first, family-oriented community service event of the school year.

Information from the Guidance Office: Recommendations and Transcripts

Each year a number of our students submit applications to private schools for the coming fall term. To simplify the application process for students, parents, and staff, the following guidelines should be followed.

* Transcripts are sent from the Guidance Office. For each transcript request, parents must submit a letter or release form with their signature. In addition, a stamped envelope addressed to each school is required. Transcripts are sent directly to the schools.

* The first 3 transcripts are sent without charge. For each additional transcript, there is a $2.00 charge.

* Students should give recommendation forms to the appropriate teachers with a stamped envelope addressed to the school. The top of each form must be completed by the parent or the student before it is submitted (e.g., name of student, address, teacher).

* We must limit recommendation requests to a maximum of 4 per student given time commitments of teachers. Allow at least two weeks for teachers to complete recommendations. Teacher recommendations are mailed directly to the private schools and are not made available for review by the student or by the parent.

*If you have any questions, please contact the Guidance Office at 301-320-6525.
