National Honor Society
The National Honor Society (NHS) was established in 1921. The purpose was to create enthusiasm for scholarship, stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character among secondary students.

Watkins Mill Chapter
It is the purpose of the Watkins Mill Chapter of the National Honor Society to recognize students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. Members are required to attend monthly meetings and complete 20 service hours earned through tutoring or other activities planned by the WMHS NHS and, or individual service projects.

Who Can Apply?
Students who will be Juniors or Seniors in August 2010 are welcome to apply for membership in the month of March of 2010.       

Eligibility Requirements      
You are required to maintain a cumulative 3.5 GPA or 4.0 WGPA. For students who will be juniors in August 2010, the GPA is through the end of their sophomore year, and for students who will be seniors, the GPA is through the end of their junior year. Other criteria required for membership are to be able to demonstrate and verify contributions of Service, Leadership, and good Character.

Application

The application will be available at an informational meeting in February 2010.  Date to be announced.

Tutoring
The NHS members offer tutoring as part of their service hours. Many tutoring opportunities are announced at meetings throughout the year for all NHS students to participate.  Tutoring can also be arranged with any NHS student, or group of students and a teacher, a counselor or an administrator.
