Two senior artists from the MCPS Visual Art Center have
received recognition in ARTS Recognition and Talent Search (NFAA) a program of
the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts. Visual Arts Finalists,
Richard Glucksburg and Leslie Smith have been named two
of 15 finalists nationally. The two young men are now under consideration for
scholarship and designation as Presidential Scholars in the Arts awards. The
Presidential Scholars Program will announce its winners in the spring.
Richard Glucksburg and Leslie Smith will travel, all
expenses paid, to Miami, Fla., for a week of master classes, workshops,
auditions and showcase performances during January 8-12, 2003.
A panel of professional artists and arts educators will evaluate the
young artists and their work and provide awards.
In addition to the two finalists, four other MCPS Visual
Art Center senior artists received recognition in the ARTS competition. Nahal
Khatami received an Honorable Mention and Michael Hanes Gaithersburg, Matt
Posorske and Michael Shevitz received Merit Awards in recognition of the quality
of their portfolios. Only Seventeen honorable mentions and Thirty-nine merit
awards were given to Visual Artists nationally.

Two Senior artists from the MCPS Visual Art Center
have received additional recognition in ARTS Recognition and Talent Search (NFAA)
a program of the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts. Visual Arts
Finalists, Richard Glucksburg (Wooton/VAC) and Leslie Smith (AEHS/VAC) have been
named Level 1 winners each receiving $3000 scholarships. The two boys are now
under consideration for the national Presidential Scholars in the Arts awards.
The Presidential Scholars Program will announce its winners in the spring.
