Assignment: 

1. Students will read "Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave: Written by Himself".

As you read, try to identify the author's perspective or viewpoint presented in the book. Ask yourself how culture influenced the author's life. What difficult choices did the author make when asked to assume responsibility.

2. Students will research an historical issue related to the Civil Rights Movement. Once you have gathered information, you will complete a graphic organizer containing specific information about your subject. (your teacher will provide the organizer). The more facts that you include in your graphic organizer, the more information you will have when you are writing your paper. You will have two days in the Media Center to use reference books and websites. For this project you are required to have at least TWO sources of information. One must be from a website (Website search strategy) and at least one must come from the special encyclopedias in the Media Center. . You will cite the websites for the websites used. You will complete a resource list (provided by your teacher) to be used to prepare your bibliography. Your bibliography will be written in proper bibliography format.

3. Students will prepare a double-spaced paper on their chosen subject based on the facts that are included in your graphic organizer. The paper should include a title page with name, date and period. The paper should contain the major accomplishments or important events and/or important dates that occurred during your chosen subject.

 

Citing your sources is an important part of research.

For a Website: Author. Title of website. [Online] Available http://web address/filename, date of document (created or updated) or date of download.

For a Book: Author last name, author first name. Title of book. City of publication: Name of publisher, copyright date.
