Mathflash! Description

"Mathflash!" is a Java flash card game appropriate for grades K-5. It features choices for the problem type, the difficulty level, and two different modes of play. The problem type can be addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, or a random mix. In addition to "Easy", "Medium" and "Hard", a new play level, "Visual", has been added with version 2.0. The problems in "Visual" mode are the same as "Easy", but young children are helped by counting apples. Version 2.2 adds an "Advanced" mode to challange 5th and 6th graders. Version 3.0 includes a scoring system to further motivate children to score as high as possible. Also, the "Play Game" mode is now the default.

If you have a screen resolution of 640 X 480 or less (15" monitor or smaller on a MAC) I would recommend running the small screen version (same size as shown above)

Mathflash! for small screen (400 X 267).

If you have greater resolution try

Mathflash! for large screen (600 X 400)

Instructions

In the Practice Mode a new card will appear whenever the "New Card" deck is clicked. The answer may be entered using the keypad on the screen, or the keyboard. By clicking on the card, or pressing "=" or "return", the answer will be checked.

In the Game Mode a new game is started by pressing the "New Game" deck. A stopwatch will appear in the upper right corner and you will be timed. A performance thermometer will also appear to indicate how well you are doing. The stopwatch can be paused by simply clicking on it. In the game mode a new card will automatically be selected after either a correct answer, or the second attempt at an answer. A time limit of one, two, or three minutes may be selected.

(Note: Clicking this image will load the small screen version.)

If the screen gets messed up or mysteriously blanks out, just click in the lower right hand side (or anywhere in the "green") and all objects will be repainted.

I hope that you and your kids enjoy and benefit from this game. If you have any comments or constructive criticisms you can send email to Bill Szymczak.
