Students learn and apply a variety of problem solving
strategies as well as new mathematical concepts, axioms and theorems to
prepare for math contests and competitions. All members participate in the
Continental Math League contests. There are five of these these
competitions held each year. Selected subgroups of the Math Team compete
in the Maryland Mathalon or in the MCPS Mid-Level Mathematics League. Each
year there are 4 county meets where 20 of the top students go to other schools
in Montgomery County and compete against different students. TPMS sends
3 different teams; the A team, B team, and C team. Throughout the year
all of our Takoma Teams got first place in each of these competitions. Math
Team is a year-long activity full of fun and learning. Students can
attend information sessions in September and tryout for the team in early October. Last year we accepted over 60 students with at least 10 people from each grade. Competitions take place from
October through May. Meetings will be held on Tuesdays in Room 207 with
Ms.
