The seventh graders of Takoma Park
Middle School take a two-nonconsecutive-day field trip
to Washington D.C. The trip was sponsored by the Gems
and Eagles Seventh Grade Teams. A group of one hundred
fifty students goes to the National Zoo while another
group visits the National Cathedral and the Freer and
Sackler Galleries of Art. In the Cathedral, students
tour the building and grounds and learn about the
importance of the cathedral. This relates to their
classroom study of medieval and feudal Europe.
In the art galleries, the students spend the day
studying exhibits that focus on aspects of Asian
culture, which ties into the World Studies study
curriculum of Asia, in particular India, China, and
Japan. The students enjoy two educational and
congenial days in D.C., learning about the world's
various cultures.
