Annually, Takoma Park Middle School holds a
Dramatic Arts Festival. Students choose poems
short stories, or speeches to memorize and recite.
These pieces are categorized into three groups -
humorous, serious, and original. The original
category is where students write their own pieces.
There also is a category for ESOL students (students
who are learning English as a second language).
The pieces must be two to five minutes in length.
Every student is responsible for reciting his or her
selection with expression, emotion, and gestures that
help convey the meaning of it.
First, the students compete within their English
classes for each category. The winners within
the classes then compete with other English classes.
After that winner has been determined, students
compete with their grade, and finally, the inter-grade
competition is held.
The 2007 Dramatic Arts Festival will be held on Friday
May 11th, at 7:30 p.m. It will be the 32nd
annual Dramatic Arts Festival!
