Media Center Policies 

Student Responsibilities

  • Respect for all TPMS students and adults by following the code of conduct in the TPMS Handbook and the Code of Computer Ethics.
  • Return or renew materials by the due date.
  • Put away MC materials, push in chairs and clean work area.
  • No eating, drinking, or chewing gum in the Media Center.
  • Sign in when arriving in the Media Center.
  • Ask permission to use computers, go to the Internet, or print.
  • Obtain a pass for lunch or after school before 7:55 am.


User Responsibilities for Computer Use and Security

By using the login name and password to log onto the Takoma Park Middle School computer network, you agree to abide by and adhere to all conditions listed here and in MCPS Regulation IGT-RA. Noncompliance with the procedures and standards may be cause for disciplinary action that may include, but not be limited to, a telephone call to parents or guardians, loss of privileges, suspension, and/or expulsion, and/or criminal prosecution. Restitution for damages will be the responsibility of the student and parent. (See Regulation IGT-RA and school discipline polices).

Conduct and Use
1. All use of computer facilities, networks, and other technology resources must be for educational purposes.

2. Although it is impossible to document all appropriate conduct and use of computer facilities, the following guidelines are examples of infractions that are prohibited:
a) System tampering (any unauthorized alteration of operating systems, individual accounts, software, networking, facilities, and/or other programs) and/or equipment damage.
b) Decrypting passwords and/or gaining unauthorized higher level access, privileges or attempting to do so.
c) Interfering deliberately with other users.
d) Making statements or actions that are libelous, slanderous, or that harass others.
e) Using language, pictures, or other material that is obscene, vulgar, or abusive.
f) Knowingly introducing viruses or attempting to do so.
g) Reading, deleting, copying, forging, or modifying the files of other users or attempting to do so.
h) Permitting others to use your account or password.
i) Using commercial advertising, chain letters, chat rooms, or non-educational games.
j) Copying or transferring copyrighted materials and software without authorization.
k) Posting personally identifiable information about students or staff without authorization.
l) Using MCPS networks or computers systems for personal gain or illegal activities.
m) Eating, drinking or chewing gum at a computer.


3. Anyone who becomes aware of suspicious or inappropriate use of data, computer system abuse, or possible breaches of security should alert his/her teacher immediately.
