Mundurucú
The Mundurucú tribe claims the
land along the Tapajós and Trombetas Rivers. This is a tribe that defends its
territory fiercely. This tribe is also quite artistic. They are known for their
many feathered garments and their elaborate tattoos, which children begin to get
at age eight. The Mundurucú are a headhunting tribe. They collect and decorate
the heads of enemies and allies after battle. After dyeing and beautifying them,
these heads are placed upon trophy sticks. This is a not uncommon practice in
the rainforests of Amazonia.
