Makú
The Makú people live between
the Rio Negro and the Japurá River. These people are classified into two
groups. The “tame” Makús are in contact with Brazil and European
settlements. The “howling monkey” Makú are isolated and believed to be the
last of the ancient tribes in Amazonia. They are great hunters and warriors,
using, six-foot blowgun, bows and arrows, war clubs, and stone axes. These
people have been able to preserve their culture despite all of the exploration
in the region.
