Boras
One of the more peaceful tribes is
the Boras tribe. These natives live in what is now northwest Peru and southern
Colombia. The Boras Indians are known to have a great knowledge of plants and
herbal medicines. Many anthropologists have been allowed to live and study with
the Boras. During the rubber boom of the early 20th century, many
Boras Indians were enslaved on rubber plantations in horrible conditions. Many
were executed for attempted escapes, and some died of starvation or foreign
diseases. The Boras people have had a very hard history and yet continue to be
friendly with the outside world.
